So I just recently bought the new Quantum EXO PT with the intention of testing it out and writing up a long review. However I'm not going to reinvent the wheel when my friends at TackleTour already have a great review on the reel. A couple items I will say is that this new design has definitely turned some heads in the boat. I've also found that the reel casts very well and is extremely smooth. One thing I don't like too much on it is the brake adjustments and the fact that the side plate can be removed completely. I like a side plate that is affixed to the reel so when you're wading there isn't a chance of dropping it into the drink. Here is TackleTours review: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewquantumexopt.html Thanks and enjoy! Chris Add Comment I want to share some tips on how to keep your reels in tip-top performance this year. Here are a couple easy tips that after two or three outings will just become routine: 1) When finished fishing for the day it is best to take a clean damp cloth and gently wipe down all your reels. Many people ask me if it's best to run a hose over their reels to completely clean them of salt or grime. Unfortunately this might be the worst thing you could do to your reel besides possibly dunking it in the ocean. The reason for this is that most modern reels are not water tight. There are many ways that water can get into your reels and corrode the parts. Just a quick wipe from a damp cloth will do. 2) Oil your stainless bearings after each trip out. Some hybrid ceramics require less oiling than stainless so I recommend once every 2-3 trips. The bearings that I'm referring to are generally the spool bearings. Refer to your reel owners manual or a reel schematic that can be found on most manufacturers sites. 3) Use a corrosion inhibitor specifically designed for fishing reels like Ardent Reel Guard or Peen Rod & Reel Cleaner. It is not recommended to use products like WD-40. The reason for this is not to just sell you a new cleaning product but because today's reels are made from many different types of materials. Some of these materials don't react well to products like WD-40. The finish on the reel could stain, bearings and washers can dry out, or even worse you could burn a hole in a reel. My advice is to use the WD-40 on a squeaky door but not your $250 reel. 4) Buy a reel cover. It's a cheap and easy way to keep the dust and elements out of your reels. Your line will last longer and your reels won't dry out. By following those 3 quick steps and buying a reel cover your reels will last longer, require less repairs and consistently perform better. |
